Are you a perfectionist?

You’re not alone.

You have high standards, are pretty good with details, and strive for excellence in the things you do. You want everything to be “just right” and so you revise and refine over and over again.

But no matter how much you work on something, in the back of your mind, you’re often thinking, “It could be a little better.”

And when you do finally take action, do you immediately have second thoughts about it and freak out a little? Do you wonder if you could go back in time and take it back somehow?

Every time I’ve immediately wanted to hit the undo button like that, you know what happened?

Nothing. The world didn’t end. Things were just fine.

Here’s the thing about perfectionism. It’s a just pretty name for procrastination. It’s a way to put things off under the guise of making it better.

But this habit does not serve you

How many times has perfectionism caused you to miss an opportunity?

How many times has perfectionism caused you unnecessary stress?

Far too many

So what’s the answer to perfectionism? Action

Taking imperfect, uncomfortable action.

  • Trust yourself and go for it because the truth is that you’re never going to feel ready.
  • Trust that you will be okay.
  • Trust that you are more than capable of handling whatever comes next.

Because you are capable and smart and resourceful. You are enough.

You’ve got this.

Does any of this resonate with you? If you’re a fellow perfectionist (recovering or active), let me know how perfectionism has impacted your life.
